Happily married to Amanda (Connelly), a horse trainer who has learned to live with a man devoted to a dangerous job, Eric is greeted by a new recruit named Brendan (Teller), a junkie who is trying to turn his life around now that he has a baby daughter.

The film stars Brolin as Eric Marsh, the leader of an Arizona firefighting force which combats raging forest blazes, putting their lives on the line to save nearby towns from destruction. Still, like its title, this modest drama may be a little too anonymous to generate significant theatrical returns. A starry ensemble will further boost visibility, especially with Jeff Bridges, Andie MacDowell and Taylor Kitsch heading the supporting cast.
#ONLY THE BRAVE MOVIE MOVIE#
He’s aided by Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly, whose effortless authenticity helps keep the movie from drifting toward mundane male-bonding clichés.īravely pushes against film-making conventions to find the humanity within its heroesĪrriving October 20 in the US and November 10 in the UK, Only The Brave should appeal to viewers who sought out similar disaster films based on actual events, such as Deepwater Horizon. Only The Brave proves to be an intriguing change of pace for Joseph Kosinski: the director of the spectacle-laden Tron: Legacy and Oblivion has this time, despite the occasionally harrowing fire sequence, made a subdued film that’s more about people than effects. Trust me.A true-life drama with a sure sense of character and milieu, Only The Brave takes us into the world of a rugged, highly trained team of wilderness firefighters, and although the storytelling isn’t particularly fresh, this is a thoughtful, well-observed look at community, heroism and addiction.

Yes, I am serious.Įdit: I would advise maybe not reading the comments on this post and going in blind for the movie. Little fun fact: the mayor in the movie was portrayed by a man whose name is Forrest Fyre. If you can, watch this movie on the biggest screen you have and turn up your subwoofers! I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of my favourite audio-visual spectacles ever. Especially the sound design of the thundering fire storms and the awesome roaring of the low passing fire fighting planes is very impressive. I have a nice dedicated home cinema set-up and I was truly blown away. Last but not least the movie absolutely NAILS the all consuming, terrifying force of nature that a forest fire can be. If you like movies such as Black Hawk Down or Hackasaw Ridge, I am sure you'll like this one. The brotherhood aspect is the unique kind that is forged by having to put your life in the hands of the man beside you and makes it feel like a war movie at times. Only the brave is about family, sacrifice and brotherhood.

Bridges and Connelly are amazing as well and bring a lot of emotional gravitas to the movie. Miles teller is perfect in his role as a slacking drug user trying to turn his life around, Josh Brolin just oozes leadership and competency in his role as the Fire and rescue crew superintendent and together they form a beautiful bond. Anyway, due to it not doing very well and kind of flying under the radar I had not heard of this movie before, but I am very glad I discovered it. There is some decent star power (Miles Teller, Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly), it has drama, it has action and on top of that is was well received by the critics. It did pretty badly at the box office and I am just not sure why. This movie has definitely not gotten the attention it very much deserves. For those of you that have never heard of this movie, Only the Brave is a movie based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite crew of forest firefighters from Prescott, Arizona.
