Instead what happened was flabbergasting: the CS engaged my troops and not only did they not route but they actually annihilated my front lines. I was certain my victory was moments away. I was certain this would be a coup on my part considering this perfect setup.īy the time the Cornutis and Company made it up the slope, all of them and I mean - ALL OF THEM - were exhausted. By the time the WRS had arrived their fatigue registered as "Fresh", all of them in shieldwall formation. I managed to rush my troops to the high ground in a corner of the map, perfectly overlooking the crest of a gentle slope. Our forces were about even in terms of experience 0-2 chevrons, give or take with my army having slightly more experience overall. The WRS had a similar composition, minus the dogs, but their spearmen were Cornuti Seniores (CS).

I had 20-unit army, half with a combination of Elite Duguth Spearman and Elite Nordic Spearmen, skimishers and wardogs. The best example I can give of this wild inconsistency is a recent battle I had against Western Roman Separatists. So far I only have 96 hours in Attila, a third of which belongs to my current Saxon campaign which has had its ups and downs.Īttila's unit dynamics (i.e., the results of two units squaring off against one another) feel very very strange to me, even wildly inconsistent, especially compared to Rome II.īy this I mean, I'll see two units of more-or-less equal stats but with very uneven results, usually lopsided in the AIs favor. I put 700 hours into Rome II, which I both enjoy (a lot) and feel I understand its strategy much more intimately compared to Attila.

I've been putting more hours into Attila in recent weeks, what with the arrival of Warhammer on the horizon, and my realization that I've barely scratched the surface of Attila since I got it at launch. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.846 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.
